english weekly news June 23th - June 29th
Sorry for the delay, but I was honestly too tired to write last weeks review when we came back late on Sunday June 30th.
Statistic
day: 52
peaks: 118/460
On Sunday June 23rd we finally dared climbing mountains again. We were both eager to go again, after I had been sick the previous days. It went well. Except for some strikes of dizziness and an annoying stomach, I was 'closed' able to reach the peaks we had planned for that day.
On Monday we were already hiking for about half an hour when it started to rain heavily. Since we wanted to climb rocky ridges, we were depending on dry conditions. So we turned around and hiked to the Fuorcla Trupchun in the rain. A week ago we were flown up there by helicopter for Swiss national TVs filming. We know that that was not a proper mountain climb, so we promised to each other, that we were going to hike the approach to where (Fuorcla Trupchun) we were brought by helicopter on a rainy day. It turned out to be a fun day. We saw a lot of wildlife, which is actually not a surprise since our journey went through the only Swiss national park. By the way, they wont give us a permit to climb the four mountains above 3000 meters in their park.
On Tuesday we went to Davos little Patagonia. The first peak we reached hiking, while for the other two we were using harnesses and ropes. On the last one there is a booklet that was brought up in the 1920s. It is really interesting to read about who went there and which climbs they did. The two peaks we climbed on Wednesday are rarely frequented. There are practically no signs off recent human action whatsoever. We came across very few trails made by sheep and wildlife, which must be having a great time in this remote part of the canton.
On Thursday we were on an official mission at our main sponsor Graubünden Feriens annual meeting. Friday morning we left Davos at three in the morning heading to the Val Roseg in the Engadin. We arrived there at four thirty and it was raining heavily. So we rolled out our camping mats and our sleeping bags in the back of our Jumper (trip vehicle by Citroen) and went back so sleep. The German Journalists, who we were supposed to meet on a peak today, went for a short walk on the glacier before we met with them for lunch for interviews.
The first two mountains we climbed on Saturday were honestly not very fun due to very loose rock. The second two were nicer but all the four are in a really nice surrounding, offering a very pretty view of the cantons highest peaks and the pretty lakes of the upper Engadin. We were a lot luckier with the weather in June so we progressed to 118 peaks up to today. The summer climbing we are doing now, is allowing us more time every day because there is (except for glacier areas) hardly any snow around anymore. We put the skis away this week. We hardly have to worry about avalanches anymore. We are repeatedly stunned by what our canton has to offer. The mix of trees, flowers, rocks, peaks, glaciers, lakes, rivers, clouds, sun and wildlife is making everyday an unforgettable experience.
