checkpoint - Central
Despite the satisfying performance there were several health problems with the dogs, forcing Emil to scratch the race.
At 3.00 o’clock in the morning the team has reached the second checkpoint in Central,
4 hours and 30 minutes after leaving the Dogdrop 101. The Dogs mastered the Eagle Summit, one of the big hurdles of the race, relatively fast and without many problems regardless of the icy cold temperatures of around minus 50 degrees Celsius.
The veterinarian test at the checkpoint revealed that 3 of the dogs were slightly dehydrated which means that they didn't get enough liquid (in form of snow) during the struggle. Another dog got a minor paw injury on the way down and could therefore be the next one to drop out soon.
With the still long trail ahead, the too few dogs left and the increasingly dropping temperatures Emil decided to quit the race for the safety and health of the dogs.
